Hobart is one of Australia’s most scenic – and historic – cities. Nestled along the basin of the Derwent River, the water depth here provided the conditions needed for what became a bustling 19th century port for Southern Ocean shipping and whaling operations. As the 1800s progressed, Hobart prospered, growing from the small convict settlement it was in 1803 to the thriving Australian capital city it is today.

With a population of just 220,000, Australia’s smallest, and second oldest capital city offers a charismatic blend of urban charm and idyllic coastal beauty. Old world architecture, classic neighbourhoods and picturesque harbours, coves and inlets have the power to bewitch and beguile. A city of stirring scenery and distinctive character, Hobart’s historical attractions, from the cleverly redeveloped warehouses of Salamanca Place to the many classic Georgian and Victorian edifices found nearby, the history of the city seems to permeate the cool and breezy waterfront air.

You’ll find many appetising delicacies here as well. Tasmania is known for its wonderful selection of produce, wines and cheeses and a trip out to the surrounding areas is a feast for the senses. Take a tour of the famous Australian wine country just outside Hobart and immerse yourself in the many flavours of the region. One thing’s for sure, Hobart is sure to satisfy your appetite!
